June 26, 2025 – A Full Circle Moment

Hello! I’m excited to finally introduce myself — my name is Desiree Fowler, and I’m the last of the Assistant Directors to share a little about who I am and what I do here at camp.

I’m originally from Germany and first came to camp in 2010 as international staff, serving as the Volleyball Director. I returned in 2012 to lead Photography, and that summer turned out to be especially meaningful — it’s when I met my husband, Ben, who was one of the wilderness trip leaders.

We now have two young boys, Oliver (5) and Lennart (3), who you may spot in some of the camp photos — already beginning to discover what makes this place so magical.

Last summer was my first year as part of the Admin team, and it truly felt like coming home. Being back as a parent and seeing camp through my children’s eyes has deepened my appreciation for all that this community offers: a place where kids grow, build friendships, and find joy in the simplest of moments. I’m especially grateful for the way your campers have embraced my kids — forming friendships and showing them what it means to be part of this camp family.

This summer, I serve as the Director of Activities. I work closely with our dedicated activity staff to ensure they feel supported and ready to deliver the wide variety of programs we offer. Today was a great example of what makes our days here so special: We started the morning with a comforting breakfast of French toast and bacon. After breakfast, everyone headed back to their cabins for morning clean-up, and by 10am, activities were underway. As I walked around camp, I saw campers enjoying pickleball, soccer, and golf. Rock climbing was held in our indoor Bouldering Cave, and the waterfront was full of energy with swimming, waterskiing, and fishing. Floor Hockey had an exciting game going, and everyone seemed happy to be moving and having fun. Lunch was a fresh chicken Caesar salad served with warm pita bread and followed by ice pops.

During rest hour, campers participated in letter writing day. In the afternoon, we were lucky again that the rain continued to hold off, and we returned to a full round of activities. The rain started coming in right around dinner time, which was delicious Mongolian Beef with rice and broccoli. Knowing that the next couple of hours would be raining pretty much nonstop, we gathered in the Rec Hall for a cozy movie night watching Minecraft.

Thank you for sharing your incredible campers with us this summer — they bring so much life, laughter, and heart to everything we do. I’m looking forward to all the moments still ahead.

Benches up,

Desi Fowler
