Hello from the serene Northwoods! Today was an amazing last day of activities and programs. We slept in a half hour later this morning due to last night’s festivities, so at 8:30, the wake-up bell rang. Then at 9:00, we gathered in the lodge for egg McMuffin sandwiches. After reaching our morning protein goals, we headed back to the cabins for a clean-up until 10:45.
From 10:45 to 12:45, we held third and fourth periods of activities. Today was our last day of activities, and some of the boys’ last time to ski, climb, or disc golf until next summer. This wasn’t a point to dwell on, though; instead, we made sure to send the boys off with a bang. Athletics played trampball today, climbers scaled the rock wall, and one camper attempted to ski on a canoe paddle for his last run! It was an awesome end to the summer’s activities.
At 1:00, we packed the lodge once more for lunch, which today was mac and cheese and smokie-links. After stuffing our faces full, we headed back to the cabins for a rest period. At 3:00, we all gathered on the athletic field to take an all-camp photo. After brothers, cabins, extreme trippers, and legacy legends took their group photos, we gathered around the flagpole for an afternoon program. Inspired by the Hunger Games, we played a free-for-all dodgeball-style program. It was tons of fun and controlled chaos; it ended in the Blue team scoring a big lead for their team.
After the games ended, we cleaned up and enjoyed a camp favorite for dinner: buffalo and BBQ wings! Once we had cleaned our wings and cleared our tables, we grabbed canteen and got ready for the evening’s program: a blue and white marathon/relay! The marathon had all types of events, from running with an egg on a spoon to making the perfect bed; there was an event for everyone! The race culminated in a rope burning contest. The two teams built huge fires to burn three different-sized ropes, and in the end, the White Team built the better flame. As the ropes fell apart, the campers cheered at their victory, swooping Pickles and the Program directors up and throwing them into
the Lake as per tradition. As the PAs, Pickles, and the program directors swam in the lake, the camp knew that the Blue and White games were over for the summer. We all headed back to the lodge for some ice cream and to hear the final scores. After much anticipation,Sam declared the Blue team to be the ultimate victors of second
session’s blue and white games!
With the scores announced and the day over, we headed back to the cabins for our nightly routines. Showers were had, and teeth were brushed, and with that, the boys were off to bed. It was another great day at camp, one filled with memories and surprises. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings our way, but until then…
Benches Up,
Joey Flom
