Hello camp families!
Today was one of those days that perfectly encapsulates the “typical day” magic we love at Timberlane, with an extra dose of some unexpected sports excitement along the way.
The morning kicked off with our usual routine: a homemade breakfast of coffee cake, followed by the daily routine of cabin clean-up. The sun was shining, and the athletic fields and waterfront were buzzing with energy as campers dove into their morning activity periods. It was a classic “typical day” flow—campers moving from skills practice to free play, finding their rhythm, and fully embracing the choices we provide the campers daily in their activities and connection moments with each other. We strive for a day of community from start to finish.
The afternoon, however, took a turn into the unexpected. In a nod to the World Cup, we did a little schedule reshuffle to transform the central area into our own personal big-screen sporting event. Starting with a lunch of CHICKEN PATTIES and a playlist of America-themed favorites, we ended with The National Anthem and headed out to watch the game. It was optional, but well attended. Our neighbors on the lake certainly heard the chants of “USA! USA!” as the victory over Australia wrapped up.
Friday evenings are campfire nights at Timberlane, so we started with some classic group singalong songs, followed by yours truly reading ‘The Lorax”. The next section involves guitar performances including a local alumni sharing some vintage classics like “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” and “Wish You Were Here”. Our senior village director, Noah, shared some thoughts about his time as a campers and making the most of every moment, both here at camp but across all of life’s experiences. We wrapped up the evening with our keylog ceremony. It was a lovely, solemn, and beautiful end to the day, watching campers and staff alike step forward to share their gratitude and shout out friends who have made a difference in their summer so far. It’s always the perfect way to cap off a day filled with so much action and heart.
Tomorrow, we’ll be back to our usual flow, but for tonight, we’re heading to bed happy, tired, and full of great memories. Thank you for sharing your amazing and energetic boys with us!
Best wishes,
Jeff Melrose
