July 4th: Independence Day Camp Timberlane Style!

Hello and a happy Fourth of July from Camp Timberlane! It was a festive and incredible day for us in the northwoods. We had a lot of fun and deviated from the normal schedule today to honor our hard earned independence.
We started the day with a french toast and bacon breakfast. After getting in our necessary morning sugar, we jumped into a Fourth of July tradition: the Timberloop! The entire camp got together, designed racing bibs, and took off on a 5k run around the property and airport. Some boys finished in 20 minutes, others walked and finished in an hour, but regardless of time, everyone put in an amazing effort and finished! It was so fun to see everyone giving their best and fish strong.
After the 5k was over, we had a free period that lasted until lunch, which today was grilled cheese and tomato soup. Once we refueled, we had a short rest period that lasted until village games started. Each village went to a different part of camp to play different Fourth of July themed games. These lasted an hour and went into our Fourth of July open house. Every activity was open for the kids to try. There was skiing, swimming, climbing, and so much more. It was a true example of the same freedom America was founded on.
The freedom themed open house ran until flagpole and dinner, which tonight was pizza. After the delicious meals, we had a short free period before hopping onto some buses to head into town for the evening’s program. It’s the Fourth of July, so of course we had to watch fireworks! We went into town and watched as fireworks covered the night sky. The lake was glistening in front of us, camp songs were being sung, canteen was being enjoyed, and the fireworks were painting the sky: it truly was a magical Fourth of July.
After the impressive firework show, we headed back to camp to unwind and head to bed. It was an amazing day, one filled with freedom and fun. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store, until then…
Benches Up,
