Hello from Camp Timberlane! Today was our last day of First Session, and although it’s sad for the first half of the summer to be coming to an end, we still made sure to finish the session with lots of fun.
Today started with an egg and sausage mcmuffin meal. After getting a delicious breakfast in, the eight-week campers were dismissed to do activities like skiing and trampball while the four-weekers headed back to the cabins to do a quick clean-up before packing their bags. Clothing was folded and shoes were tucked into bags all across camp: once they were finished packing, the campers took their bags to the rec hall and joined the eight-weekers in some cabin games.
This took us up to lunch, which today was tacos with beans! It was a hearty meal that was followed by health screenings for all the campers. After the health screenings, we launched into a casino-themed program! The boys were tasked with earning as many timberbucks as possible. They played casino games, card game stations, and more to make timberbucks that they later spent on prizes like popcorn and Croc jibbitz. The boys had a ton of fun and loved the carnival/casino mashup! This took us to dinner, which tonight was fajitas (with amazing guacamole). The meal started a little early to accommodate the evening campfire, which tends to run long on this last night.
After dinner, we opened trampball, grabbed canteen, and then headed to the campfire ring to have a sentimental final moment together as a community. After songs and speeches, we turned to the key log ceremony. During this time, the campers give thanks and gratitude. I was touched by how many campers threw in the key log for their parents, cabinmates, and counselors. We sang taps and sent the boys back to their cabins to get some shut eye.
I want to take a moment to express my gratitude and thanks. For all of the parents who sent their campers to us and trusted me with giving them this amazing camp experience. Thank you. It has been a fantastic 1st session and I am excited for the rest of the summer.
Benches Up,
Sam
