August 1st 2024 – Legacy Night

Hello from Camp Timberlane! It’s been a great day here, and one filled with lots of laughs and stories. We started the day a half hour later today due to our late night at Chippewa. By 9:00, we headed into the lodge for an oatmeal and cinnamon toast breakfast. It was a great way to start our morning, and afterward, we headed back to the cabin for a quick cabin clean-up.

We then headed into our first and second periods of activities. Today was a cooler day: thanks to the temperature, we got to really enjoy our start to the morning. Pickleball was especially fun today, they hosted an action-packed round-robin tournament. Due to our late start, we didn’t have a morning free, instead, we headed straight into lunch. Today, we feasted on chicken caesar salad and pita bread. It was a great way to get our energy back and tasted sooo good.
After lunch, we had Titains Day team meetings: the day is approaching rapidly, and it’s hard to believe opening ceremonies are already tomorrow evening. The teams met, planned, and hyped each other up for the upcoming day. After this, we had a short rest period before heading into the third and fourth periods of activities.
These activities started off well, but the rain put a hitch in our plan. Not to worry though, we’re always prepared for a little heavy due here at Camp. We pivoted into rainy-day activities for the afternoon. There were board games, improv games, and more in the lodge, gaga in the arena, and ping pong, shuffleboard, and more in the rec hall. We had music playing and smiles were pervasive: a little rain can’t stop the fun!
It stopped raining while we enjoyed our dinner, and this allowed us to open up the tramps before our evening program, which tonight was a legacy campfire. We honored five of our long-time camp friends for their milestones of coming to camp for ten and twenty years. It was a teary-eyed campfire as the boys being honored got to hear stories about themselves over the years. The stories were a perfect mix of hilarious and reminiscent.
Camp is a special place, so special that some have devoted ten+ years to the community. This devotion deserves recognition, and that’s what made this campfire so special. It was a really beautiful day, not due to the weather, but the people. Who knows what else we have in store for tomorrow, until then…
