July 9th 2024 – Sunny and Beautiful

What a day!!

A perfect camp day can look very different depending on who you ask in our little northwoods community.  I think that today, no matter who you ask, would check ALL the boxes for the vast majority of people.  We had picture-perfect weather (and when you look at the pictures, you’ll see that).  We had a full day of activities and ended the day with our final round of Blue & White games for first session. This set of games was a little shorter in order to give us time to have our first-ever village Blue & White tug-of-war battles. And for me personally, I got to end my day having s’mores with Cherokee cabin for their Casino Night prize at our brand-new campfire pit.

I’ve always been a believer that a session at camp should include roasting marshmallows at some point, and it’s a real pleasure to be the one to facilitate that experience for at least one cabin.  (A perfect marshmallow roast should be toasted, not burned, by the way.   That’s not a negotiable for me.)  Roasting over coals instead of open flame is usually the way to go. Campers with the patience to wait for the perfect coals are pretty rare, so after I express my beliefs on the perfect ‘mallow roasting methodologies, I let them do as they wish. Usually the first half-dozen end up flaming balls of charcoal & sugar.  Tonight was no different, but it was still SO much fun to be gathered around the campfire, exchanging jokes, critiquing each other’s toasting jobs, and ending the day on a sweet and happy note.

A perfect camp day deserves the perfect ending, after all.

I hope your day was your own version of perfect. And I hope tomorrow is like today.
