July 7th 2024 – UN Day

Happy United Nations Day from Camp Timberlane! Today was terrific in the north woods because of the fantastic U.N. Day competitions. Each session has one all-camp competition day, and this session is called United Nations Day. The boys were divided into four teams/countries: Gabon, Sweden, Mongolia, and Singapore. We’ve been preparing for this day for the past couple of weeks, which is why the hype was at an all-time high this morning.

After putting on face paint and getting psyched, we had an egg and hashbrown breakfast. We jumped right into the games, starting with the marathon. Each camper was given a specific section of the marathon, and by passing the baton to their teammates, they were tasked with racing to the finish line! It was an exciting way to start the morning and set the tone for the fantastic day ahead.
Each camper participated in three different games throughout the day, so after the marathon, we had the first and second series of events. The boys competed in all sorts of events. From soccer to pickleball to trampball, the event selection was extensive. After a really hard fought morning, we headed into lunch, which today was hotdogs! After getting in some Gatorade and protein, we had a much-needed rest period. During this time, some rain started up, but that didn’t stop us from going into the third series of events. After making some adjustments to the games to ensure safety, we were right back to U.N. day! The third series went great, and it was so fun to watch the kids compete with their full efforts.
After the intense third series, we concluded the events with a relay race and a tug of war. Some people believe that “the tug is all that matters,” as it’s the last event and is worth quite a bit of points. This wasn’t the case today… even though Sweden won the tug… SINGAPORE WON THE DAY!!!! As the announcement was made at the flagpole, the whole team went crazy. It was such a fun day, and it was so awesome to see the smiles on all the kids’ faces as we ended the day with a watermelon party.
Since the boys were so active today, we’ll be sleeping in and having a lazy breakfast tomorrow. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings our way. Until then…
