July 17th: From Ultimate Frisbee to Biffer: A Full Day at Timberlane

Today was a picture perfect camp day, beginning with our usual morning routine. The wake-up bell rang at 8:00 AM, followed by the waiter’s bell at 8:15 and the breakfast bell at 8:30. As always, each cabin sent two campers to help set the tables, a small but meaningful tradition that builds responsibility and teamwork. Breakfast was scrambled eggs and toast.

Morning activities ran smoothly under sunny skies and mild temperatures. It reached a high of 69 degrees with not a cloud in sight. From 12:00 to 1:00 PM, campers enjoyed a free period with a range of options including Trampball, fishing, weights, and other favorite activities. It is a great time for campers to explore their interests, unwind, or try something new with friends.

Lunch was a camp favorite, gyros served with tomatoes, tzatziki, pita, and onions. After a well-earned rest period, we jumped back into afternoon activities.

During 4th period, I took some time to visit a few activity areas, something I regularly do to check in with staff and see our programming in action. I ended up joining an ultimate frisbee game at Disc Sports, and it was a blast. The energy was high and the sportsmanship was even higher. One moment that really stood out was during the ultimate frisbee game, when the youngest player on the field caught a long throw from a teammate. Throughout the entire game, both teams had been cheering him on and encouraging him to keep going. When he finally made that catch, everyone celebrated. The look on his face said it all. It was a small moment, but one that captured what makes camp so meaningful.

Dinner brought us all together again for homemade burgers, followed by canteen and some time bouncing on the trampolines before our evening program. Tonight’s evening activity was a camp classic called Biffer. Campers ran across camp trying to avoid being tagged by counselors, while other counselors acted as medics who could unfreeze them by leading them through silly challenges and activities.

We are grateful for days like this, simple, active, and full of connection.
