Notes from Camp
IT OCCURS TO ME:
Hi Timberlane Families,
I hope everyone is doing well. Camp is officially closed up for the season. The leaves are changing, and it is about to get pretty cold up at camp After the summer, we had a chance to host a new program We did keep it open a little bit later this year because we hosted a few different groups.
Four Star Fellowship is a week-long program for high school-aged youth and their year-round mentors to experience overnight camp in the Northwoods. We had a truly life-changing experience with the Fellows that week. The growth that we saw in just 6 days of camp was truly remarkable and is a constant reminder of the power of camping.
After 4 Star Fellowship, we just hung around camp until Ryan and I had the opportunity to join camp owners and directors from around the country on a tour of Wisconsin area camps. While Timberlane was not on the tour this time, it was a truly fantastic experience. We had a chance to learn how different camps run their program; this gave us a lot of different ideas for some new programming. We always have a great time spending time with other camp people and talking about camp.
The last event that we had at camp was organized by an alumni involved in early-stage start-ups. We hosted 25 young founders of companies at camp. They were from all around the world, and it was pretty cool to see them come together. The weekend involved 2 workouts a day with a former Navy Seal. These workouts included a lot of running and swimming.
During the weekend, I had a chance to talk with a few of the participants who are involved in companies that use AI. The conversation was interesting, talking about the cool work they were doing with AI. While chatting, one of the participants said, “You know, camp is going to be a place that is more important with the emergence of AI.” This statement had me thinking about how exciting it is for our society and that places like Timberlane will continue to thrive. With more and more technology, there is a bigger need to send campers to camp. The only true tech-free environment our kids can be in.
Please keep your eyes out for more blogs coming soon.
