AN AMAZING SECOND DAY!!!

Today was jam-packed with fun and surprises. We woke up at 8:00 for an 8:30 breakfast. After thoroughly stuffing our faces with pancakes and bacon, we returned to the cabins to prepare for the day.

We started the day with some rotations; the campers got to test out their swimming skills down at the waterfront, got health screenings, played tushball, learned about the trips program and skiing rules, and (of course) played trampball. After we took care of these initial tasks, we had some free time for the cabins to play basketball, lawn games, ultimate frisbee, and other games as a group.

At 1:00, we headed into the lodge for a proper Taco Tuesday lunch (paired with an ice cream sandwich dessert). Once we got all our energy back, we paired the cabins up to play some cabin games. Chippewa and the Chalet played an intense game of kickball, Sioux and Hawk took each other on in bombardment, and Wolf and Iroquois played a giant game of spud.

It was a hot one today, so after reapplying sunscreen and refilling their water bottles, we brought the campers to the central area to sign up for our first series of activities. We started with the senior village and worked our way down to the juniors. By the time we finished signing everyone up for activities, dinner was ready; a heaping portion of homemade pizza!!!

Before dinner was over, though, we unveiled a grand surprise. Blue and white teams –one of our evening program competitions– are now assigned for life! To commemorate this, we held a “team reveal” with an envelope containing either blue or white taffy. Once they found out their teams and team leaders, we passed out blue and white shirts to each camper. The oldest campers even got custom jerseys! Some fantastic photos of the teams and jerseys can be found on our photo blog.

We then explained the rules for our evening program, capture the flag. After putting our benches up, the campers were dismissed for a free period filled with more trampball and a canteen treat.

Once the clock struck 7:30, we kicked off our first blue-and-white game of the summer! The game was so much fun, and the campers really got into the new aspects of the blue-and-white competitions. After a hard-fought game by both teams, we had to end the night slightly early because of a bit of rain and headed off to bed.

Tomorrow, we’ll be starting our first day of activities! The kids are really excited to get into the full swing of things. That’s all for today. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update, and until then…

Benches up,
