Summer 2023 has officially begun! Our staff training consisted of getting camp physically prepared as well as getting our counselors prepared with the best practices for working with our campers. We were thrilled to host several guest speakers, our trippers got some practice and teambuilding time on the trail, and we have huge crew of lifeguards. It was plenty of hard work, but the goal of getting today was plenty of motivation!
So we had a fantastic 3 weeks of staff training, but the staff was beyond excited for that first bus to roll in. And once it did, there was no containing the energy the campers brought into camp with them. Smiles and hugs, followed by a quick unpack and dinner. The traditional spaghetti and garlic bread, followed up by a freshly-baked brownie and a canteen treat. Because, hey… it’s camp!
After plenty of treats, the cabins got into groups to play some traditional games like basketball, ultimate frisbee, and more favorites. As always, good sportsmanship and fun were the focus, and we kept it brief. There was still unpacking to be done! It really is a thrill to hear the excitement of the campers as they settled into cabins and formed new friendships with their cabinmates.
Tomorrow we have a day of getting through some of the “red tape” items such as swim observations, a visit with our nursing staff, and a review of playing trampball safely. By the afternoon we will be ready for the campers to sign up for activities and tomorrow night our first Blue and White competition will take place: Capture the Flag! There’s no better way to get our summer started off with such an exciting, fast-paced, and EPIC event!
We can’t wait to share more updates and stories with you throughout the summer. So stay tuned for our next blog, where we’ll spill the beans on all the exciting activities and challenges that lie ahead for your campers at Camp Timberlane!
