August 3, 2025: Lazy Breakfast, Camp-Style

Today began with one of our favorite Timberlane traditions: Lazy Breakfast. For those unfamiliar, Lazy Breakfast is when the admin team, including village directors, takes over the kitchen and cooks breakfast for the entire camp. We’re in the kitchen by 7:30 in the morning, getting everything prepped and ready before the first camper arrives.

We’re never alone in this effort. About seven campers volunteer each week to help run the “front of house”. They take orders at the kitchen windows and pass them to me, where I call them back to the cooks with plenty of “Yes, chef” energy, inspired by The Bear.

The menu? Think diner meets camp: mystery omelets, veggie omelets, cheese omelets, bacon & cheese omelets, eggs-your-way, and bullseyes.

At 9:25, we give an energetic “last call for cholesterol,” and wrap up at 9:30. While campers head back to their cabins, the counselors from one village stay behind to handle lodge cleanup, giving our hardworking kitchen team a much deserved break. These mornings are always a highlight because they’re fun, collaborative, and a great opportunity for our campers and staff to share in something different together.

After breakfast, we had an extended cabin clean-up followed by inspection. Then it was off to first and second period activities. Lunch featured a build-your-own sandwich bar with deli meats, cheeses, and our ever-popular salad bar.

The afternoon followed a regular activity schedule and the weather could not have been better. It was warm, sunny, and perfect for being outside.

Dinner was one of our favorite weekend traditions, the Sunday cookout. Burgers, baked beans, salad, and jello were served picnic style. With the beautiful weather, everyone gathered in the central area to eat. Tonight’s evening program offered three choices: a movie in the Rec Hall, Tramball, or board games in the central area. After an action-packed Saturday, this slower pace gave everyone a chance to recharge.

To finish the day, our PAs, the oldest campers, had some special time with Sam, including a pontoon ride around the lake and time to hang out and connect. It is something they always look forward to.

We wrapped up the day with good food, easy laughter, and that calm, content feeling that only a full camp day can bring. A Sunday well spent at Timberlane.
