July 27th 2024 – Olympic Day

It’s always a great day here at Camp Timberlane, but today was extra special: it was Olympic Day! The day was full of festivities and fun in celebration of the Paris Olympics. We started the day with an egg and hash breakfast. While we were chowing down, we listened to a playlist of the national anthems from every country that is represented at camp. From Ireland to Mexico, every country got its moment to shine. We dismissed the campers to their cabins afterward so that they could clean up before our first activity.

At 10:00, we headed to the central area to start preparing for the timberloop! The boys prepared running bibs and got ready to take on the traditional camp 5k. Starting from the senior village, the entire camp ran all 3.1 miles. They had a blast, and some even finished within 20 minutes!! It was really inspiring to see all the boys exert their full energy and really give it their all. After the last camper crossed the finish line, we entered into an Olympic themed organized free period. We had wrestling, arts and crafts, trampball, and more: the boys had an epic morning.

After this, we went to lunch, which was cold cuts and french fries today. After ice cream sandwiches and cleaning up, we headed back to the cabins for a much-needed rest period. We rested until 3:00 when the third and fourth periods began. Some boys skied, others played volleyball, and a couple of boys got to climb the rock wall.  It was a great time and lasted until our afternoon free period at 5:00. There was more trampball and plenty of tushball. This went on until flagpole and dinner, which was a camp favorite: fajitas!!!

Once dinner ended, we went into our special evening program. We divided the camp into three groups and had them compete in an Olympic showdown. There were skill-based games, physical games, and mental challenges. We had everything from a long jump to an obstacle course to a math challenge. It was a blast, and at the end of the evening, we decided on 3 winners from each village (they’ll receive their medals at our ceremony tomorrow!) It was a lovely and very active day.

Who knows what other surprises and hoodwinks we have in store for tomorrow? We’ll find out soon and until then…
