June 25th 2024 – 80’s Day

Summer Sunshine meets 80’s nostalgia.

We started our day with a hearty breakfast that set the stage for an incredible day ahead. Imagine enjoying fluffy scrambled eggs, golden toast, and crispy hash browns, all while grooving to some of the 80’s classics. It was the perfect way to kick-start our morning with a burst of energy and excitement.

Right after breakfast, there are three different wilderness trips: the Namekagon River Paddle, the Porcupine Mountain Backpacking trip, and Taylor’s Falls Rock Climbing trip. Each group departed enthusiastically, eager to embrace the challenges and beauty of the outdoors. They will be creating unforgettable memories along the way.

After our daily cabin cleanup, campers were excited to start the second series of activities. Every week, our campers have the chance to choose from a diverse array of 31 activities, spanning everything from Arts and Crafts to Basketball and Waterskiing. With the weather being absolutely gorgeous, we ensured everyone stayed hydrated and protected with regular refills of water bottles and sunscreen at all our activities. The camp buzzed with excitement as campers eagerly tried new activities, worked towards their goals, and got to know the incredible activity staff.

One of the standout moments of my day was undoubtedly our lunchtime dance party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed today’s Hot Dog and French Fries meal, followed by delicious apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. Once lunch was over, the Lodge transformed into a vibrant camp-wide dance party. For at least five songs, over 200 people sang, danced, and laughed together to the infectious beats of 80’s music. It’s moments like these that I wish could be preserved forever—the pure joy and strong sense of community were truly remarkable.

We transitioned seamlessly into the afternoon’s 3rd and 4th activities. With the sun still high, many campers headed to the refreshing Lake Towanda during their free period, cooling off and splashing around in the waters. Other campers enjoyed the freedom to choose different activities such as Trampball, Pickleball and Climbing. By the time dinner rolled around, campers loved an all time favorite honey glazed chicken, rice and peas.

As the afternoon unfolded, our campers seamlessly transitioned into their 3rd and 4th activities. With the sun still shining brightly, many chose to unwind at the beautiful Lake Towanda during their free period, enjoying the opportunity to cool off and play in the water. Meanwhile, others explored a variety of activities including Trampball, Pickleball, and Climbing.

By dinnertime, our campers were delighted to indulge in a beloved classic: honey-glazed chicken served with rice and peas, a meal that garnered unanimous praise.

For our evening program, we revived the beloved game of Biffer—an enduring camp favorite that blends teamwork with friendly competition. Campers eagerly dashed between stations, tackling a series of entertaining challenges designed to foster camaraderie and excitement.

Today was an absolutely amazing day and we are excited what tomorrow will bring. Until then,

Benches Up!
