Who’s Who at Camp – January, 2019

Hi Folks,

We are so excited about the summer ahead!  And we have some great campers to tell you about and an awesome list of returning staff members.  So, let’s get right to it!

As of today, we are happy to inform you that we still have space in both sessions.  There are some age groups 1st session that are close to capacity, so if that’s your preferred session, you should let us know very soon.

Welcome back to the following “old-timers” who re-enrolled in the past month: JAY CARROLL of Chicago, IL; SOLOMON GREENE of Evanston, IL; JACK SARGENT of San Anselmo, CA; AIDAN LATZ of Mission Hills, KS; BEN GOLDMAN of Glencoe, IL; TYLER BORSTEIN of Highland Park, IL; MILAN STAG of New Orleans, LA; MICAH SHULMAN of Northbrook, IL; and JOE COOVERT and REIS LOURIE of St. Louis, MO.

We are also pleased to welcome NOAH CARSON of Highland Park, IL.

We have had a very busy start to the new  year.  Check out this amazing list of returning staff members who have committed to the summer ahead!  And this is on top of the people we told you about last month!

DILLON BERLIN This will be Dillon’s 9th summer at camp.  He will be 17 years old, and is from Glencoe, IL.  Dillon is a junior at New Trier High School.  This summer, Dillon will be a Junior Counselor, helping with Fishing, Waterskiing, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, and Swimming.  Something you may not have known about Dillon: “I volunteer in a Sunday school at my temple and referee youth hockey games.”
JOE BURSON Joe is back for his 2nd summer as a member of our illustrious Trips Staff.  He is 20 years old and is a sophomore at Hocking College in Nelsonville, OH, majoring in Ecotourism and Adventure Travel.  Joe recently spent 6 weeks in the Bahamas studying the ecology and culture of the island as well as various other tourism and outdoor adventure courses. Prior to that he was out for 8 weeks in West Virginia, Southeast Ohio and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan rock climbing, canoeing, and backpacking FOR COLLEGE.  Something you may not know about Joe: ,”I recently canoed a stretch of “the Beast in the East”, the New River, at 15,000 CFS about 50 times the flow of the Brule including both a Class III and IV set of rapids.”
SAM CASSELS All the way from the other side of the pond in London, England, Sam is back for his 2nd summer.  He will be 22 years old this summer, and he is in his 3rd year at the University of Leeds, studying History.  Sam returns as the head of our Weight Training program, and will help with Mountain Biking and Soccer.  Something you may not know about Sam:  “I spent the winter holiday in Vail and Miami! It was my first time skiing in America but definitely not my last as it was also my most enjoyable skiing holiday to date.”
NOAH FOSTER Summer number 8 coming up for Noah.  He is 17 years old and hails from Glencoe, IL.  Noah is a junior at Glenbrook North High School where he plays on the tennis team.  At camp Noah will be a Junior Counselor helping out at Tennis, Waterskiing Rocketry, and Floor Hockey.
RYAN HEARST From the University of Alabama, and St. Louis, MO, we welcome back Ryan for his 11th summer at camp!  Ryan will be 19 this summer, and in his freshman year he is studying Finance and Econ in beautiful Tuscaloosa.  Ryan will be a Senior Counselor this summer helping out with Waterskiing, Baseball, and Arts & Crafts.  Something you may not know about Ryan: “I recently became initiated into ZBT.”  
DAVID HEIMAN It is summer number 10(!!) coming up for David! He is 19 years old, from Glencoe, IL, and is a freshman at Syracuse University, studying Sports Management.  David will be a Senior Counselor, will again head up our Comedy Sportz activity, and help with Baseball, Fishing, Athletics, and Basketball.  Something you may not know about David: “Khalil Mack is a new neighbor of mine.”
ANDREW KARMIN If you can believe it, is is also summer number 10 in store for Andrew!  Amazing!!  Andrew is 18 years old, from Highland Park, IL, and is a senior at North Shore Country Day School.  Andrew plays on his school’s soccer team, and this summer he will be a Junior Counselor, will again head up our Soccer program, and will help out with Waterskiing.  Something you may not have known about Andrew: “I am an even better ref than I am at playing soccer.”
JUSTIN KEMP Justin is 25 years old and is originally from Gorham, ME.  This will be his 3rd summer with us.  He is currently in his last year of Nursing School at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  Justin has a wide range of experiences, including ROTC in high school, and 2 summers as a Timberlane tripper.  This year, Justin will be a Senior Counselor, will head up our Riflery program, and will help with Photography, Canoeing, and Rock Climbing.  
KALEB MADISON Second summer coming up for Kaleb! He is 21 years old and comes from Burleson, TX, though he will be starting college classes this spring at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR.  Kaleb will again be a Trip Leader at camp.  Something you may not have know about Kaleb: “I visited ten different national parks this year. Zion in Utah is my favorite! “
LEVI RASKIN Levi is back for his 8th summer at camp.  He will be 17 years old this summer, and he is from Oak Park, IL.  He is currently a Junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, IL.  In his spare time, Levi has constructed his own high thrust rocket engine.  Fittingly, this summer he will be a Junior Counselor, will head up our Model Rocketry program, and will help out with Advanced Canoeing, Rock Climbing, and Mountain Biking.  Something you may not have known about Levi: “I’ve started doing art and just had my first opening! I do 3 dimensional art which I design on my computer and then either 3D print or CNC.  I’ve done a series of vases printed in biodegradable plastic because its kinda funny to me that it is a pretty vase, but if you put water in it and a flower, it will rot.” 
JARED SAEF Jared is 18 years old and is from Chicago, IL.  This will be his 6th summer at camp, and he is a Senior at the Francis Parker School.  Jared has taken photo classes at school, and is presently involved with his school’s choir.  This summer, Jared will be a Junior Counselor, and will help out with Digital Photography, archery, Riflery, and other areas.  Something you may not have know about Jared: “I love architecture! It’s one my passions. I enjoy reading about it, studying architectural history, and going out and seeing the various forms of it around my home city of Chicago”
ARI SINGER This will be Ari’s 9th summer at camp.  He is 19 years old, from St. Louis, MO, and is a freshman at the University of Delaware, studying Business.  Ari played ice hockey and golf throughout his childhood and high school years.  At camp, Ari will be a Senior Counselor, will head up our Floor Hockey program, and help with Waterskiing and Golf.
CHARLIE SMOLLER Charlie is 19 years old, and this will be his 9th summer at camp.  He is from St. Louis and is a freshman at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he is studying Biology.  This summer, Charlie will be a Senior Counselor, will again head up our Ropes Course program, and will help out with Waterskiing, Fishing, and Weight Training.  Something you may not have known about Charlie: “I love to collect autographs from athletes.”
DAVID WINE Summer number 9 on deck for David also!  He will be 18 years old this summer, and he is from Oak Park, IL.  David is a senior at Oak Park and River Forest High School where he plays on the tennis team.  This summer, David will be a Junior Counselor and will help out with Tennis and Rock Climbing.
