Breakfast was cheese omelets, lunch was chili, and dinner was Mongolian beef, and the boys cleaned their plates at every meal. Activities were fantastic across the board, but the real highlight of the day happened at lunch. We mixed things up and had campers sit with kids they don’t normally sit with, using a random table organizer. We’re going to keep doing this two days a week going forward, because building community here means making sure every camper actually gets to know every other camper, not just the ones in his cabin or activity group. It worked beautifully. Later in the day I overheard a kid say, “Oh, I met that guy today, we had lunch together, that was so cool.” Moments like that are exactly what we’re after, and exactly why we keep finding new ways to shake things up.
We closed out the night with a campfire under a clear sky, and used it as a chance to really sit with where we are. We’re halfway through the first session, which is hard to believe given how fast the days have moved. It was a good moment to look back on an amazing week and make sure every camper is squeezing everything he can out of the time he has left here.
Benches Up,
Sam
