AND HERE WE GO.
The busses are here, the campers have dined on our finest pasta with a fresh-baked, made-from-scratch chocolate chip cookie, and our opening campfire set the tone for the four weeks ahead. All is well.
Some backstory to this amazing start: The last week in the northwoods has been cool (let’s be honest: cold) and rainy. We had a VERY enjoyable father and son weekend, despite the less-than-idea weather, but the temperature in particular made the whole staff training week feel longer than we would have liked.
Then, today happened. By 10am it was sunny, 75 degrees, and our staff was SO engerized by the blue skies and light breeze. Final cabin cleanups took place quickly, and the last preparations of camp were completed. By noon, camp looked its absolute best, and our staff was absolutely prepared for the busses to roll in.
The Chicago buses rolled in around 3:30, and camp instantly lit up. It was awesome to see the whole place come alive so quickly.
After a little free time—and the first trampball game of the summer—we headed to the campfire area. It wasn’t our full-on Friday night campfire, but it was a great way to kick things off. We gave a big shoutout to our first-year campers for having the guts to hop on a bus or plane today, and we wrapped up by reminding everyone how important this community is—and how each of us plays a part in making it great.
Tomorrow, we will do some swimming, and by the end of the day, we will be ready to start activities. That will be an update for tomorrow’s blog post!
Thanks for sharing your camper(s) with us!
Benches up,
Sam
