Hello from camp!
My name is Corrie. You most likely know me from my emails about travel, so happy everyone made it here safely! This is my 19th summer at Camp Timberlane and my 28th summer working at a summer camp. In addition to coordinating camper travel to and from camp, I am the Director of Staff Development. One of my biggest rolls of the summer was getting counselors prepared for camp. We just finished a fantastic week and a half of getting to know each other, learning how to help you camper have the best summer ever and having fun! When I’m not at camp, I am a high school assistant principal. I spend my whole year working with kids and I love it! My son is in his last year being a camper here at camp and my daughter works in the office. My husband works here as well, you will be hearing from him in a few days.
But enough about me, let’s talk about out fantastic first full day of camp. We had some early risers this morning that were up hours before the wake up bell exploring camp, playing volleyball and hanging out with one of the camp dogs, Oreo. After a delicious breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, we spent the morning taking swim assessments, hearing about our amazing trips program which included some scrambled brownies, learning how to play trampball and tushball and spending time together as a village.
Lunch was tacos and ice cream sandwiches followed by a rest period and time to finish unpacking. The afternoon we had time together as a cabin and signed up for our first series of activites. Sam and I checked every campers schedule and it was great to chat with every, single camper! Our routine each evening is to gather around the flagpole, hear about our evening program and lower the flag. It is a nice time for us all to get together and take a quick pause in our busy days. Dinner tonight was yummy chicken stir fry and evening program was a camp favorite……Capture the Flag! As I type this, campers are running all around me laughing and having so much fun.
Thank you for trusting us with your child, it’s an honor to have them here!
Till next time,
Corrie
