June 23rd 2024 – Casino Night

A Sunday to Remember!

Today was another great day at camp! Today we had Lazy Breakfast, so the day started a little later than usual. The kitchen opened around 8:30 with administration staff cooking and some younger campers serving. We had omelets, bullseyes, and other egg variations. Breakfast ended at 9:30 and was followed by a quick cabin clean up.

We then jumped into activities. We had first and second periods, which were filled with instruction, fun, and smiles. It was another hot one today, so our nurses made sure to walk around and help the kids remember to drink water and reapply their sunscreen. Since we woke up early, there was no free period. Second period ended at 12:45 and lunch started at 1:00. To get our energy back up, we had a delicious serving of tostadas with chicken, beans, and the works. After lunch, we signed up for our second series of activities, with the intermediates and juniors picking first. After such a great first series, the kids were eager to sign up for a new set of activities.

After everyone filled out their schedules, we had a quick rest period followed by third and fourth period. Soccer balls were kicked, climbing towers were scaled, and frisbees were thrown. After the afternoon activities were done, we met in the lodge to discuss our evening program… an all time camp favorite… CASINO NIGHT!!!

We passed out fake money to the campers, explained the rules, and sent them on their way to change into costumes and vote on their potential prizes. After getting ready, we all came back to the flagpole to lower the flag and have an outdoor barbeque. The burgers were amazing, but the company was even better. Everyone got to sit with their friends outside and enjoy the evening. After dinner, the scene was set; we arranged the outdoor tables in a square formation and around 7:15 opened the “casino”. There was blackjack, human slot machines, counselor sporting events and tug of wars to bet on, and much more. The kids were all dressed up and had so much fun goofing around with each other. There was passion in the air and smiles on faces; it was such a fun time.

After counting up each cabin’s winnings, the juniors and intermediate cabins headed back to take their meds and wash up before bed. The older boys got to play another hour of casino night before having to wind down. After they finished up their post evening program activity, they too cleaned up and headed to bed. It was another awesome day at Timberlane, and we hope tomorrow will be even better! Until then,

Benches up,

Joey
