What a day in the Northwoods! Today was Titan’s Day. All of camp was split into four teams, each representing a different mythological figure. This summer we had Ares, Jizo, Kronos, and Nemesis, all competing for the win. We got an earlier start than usual, fueling up with breakfast before heading into opening ceremonies, where each team performed their opening skit. The energy right out of the gate set the tone for everything that followed.
The first event of the day was Gladiator Leg Wrestling, and the cheering started immediately. From there the competition rolled through a series of camp classics including trampball, bombardment, shuffleboard, and the waterfront triathlon. Points were adding up fast heading into lunch.
Lunch on Titan’s Day carries its own tradition. The entire lodge goes silent. No talking, no singing, no chanting. Just hotdogs and curly fries. It’s one of those Timberlane moments that never gets old. After lunch everyone headed back to the cabins for a well-earned rest period before the afternoon.
Coming out of rest period, the whole camp gathered on the soccer field for the staff and camper relay races. Both races came down to the final steps. The afternoon energy matched the morning, with every camper giving everything they had to earn points for their team.
Then came the Tug of War. Staff went first, then campers, and the noise was something else. It’s the loudest Timberlane gets, and it’s great every single time.
When the final points were counted, Nemesis took home the Titan’s Day championship. Well deserved.
We sat down to our traditional Titan’s Day dinner of matzo ball soup, potato pancakes, and cheesy broccoli, and capped the whole thing off with a watermelon party in the lodge.
Benches Up,
Sam
