Seasons of Camp – Notes from Camp – October, 2018

Hi Folks,

For most people there are 4 seasons, right?  Not so much for us.  We really have only 2 seasons….Camp Season, and Not-Camp Season.  Camp Season is the best!  We’re in the Northwoods,  either prepping for the coming camp session, enjoying camp, or recuperating from the past camp session.  Any of those times are just fantastic!  We love it the most when the kids are with us, but it’s also exciting getting ready for camp, and it’s peaceful and relaxing up there after camp ends.  All good!

Not-Camp Season is nice too.  During that time of year we’re in Tucson or traveling to see camp people.  Wherever we are, we’re preparing for and thinking about camp.  We’re just not at camp, thereby making it Not-Camp Season.  Tucson is a nice contrast to the Northwoods.  We’ve got mountains to look at and nice weather most of the time we’re here.  We just arrived back in Tucson a few days ago to some unseasonal weather, including some steady rain (it DOES rain in Tucson…just never at camp.)  And the temperature is mild for this time of year…way down into the low 80s.  That’s the really interesting thing.  Our friends who live her year ’round have to bundle up when the temperature “dips down” into the 80s.  For them it’s sweater weather.  Really!  For us, coming from a beautiful Wisconsin summer, 80s still feel hot.  So there we are…us in our shorts, our Tucson friends in pants and sweaters or jackets.

Dustin is adjusting to his Not-Camp Season in Chicago.  He’s living in the city which is a new thing for a guy who spent the last two winters in the Colorado Rockies.  But he’s there, and working on camp stuff, which has been great.  Leslie and I stopped in Chicago on the trip from camp to visit with Dustin and Sammy, meet with some nice prospective camp families, and take in a baseball game at Wrigley.  That was a lot of fun (our team won!), and then we set out for the 2000 mile drive to Tucson.  That was less fun, but not to terrible.  We’re happy to be here and out of the car!

YO EVERYONE!

We want to remind all of you that our Early Enrollment discount expires on October 15th.  This is for campers and PAs whose applications and deposits are received by the end of that day.  Those applications lock in the 2018 tuition rate for the 2019 summer.  October 15th is a firm deadline, so please get your kids signed up right away if you’d like to receive the lower tuition rate.

It’s Reunion Season!  What a fun way to keep the “off-season” moving along at a fast pace so we can get back to camp again!  We will have at least 14 reunions this winter across the country.  We want you all to come and visit with us and your camp friends in the area when we’re in your neighborhood.

Reunions are fun, and they’re for EVERYONE!  So please, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, neighbors…invite them all to join us.  We’ll watch the 2018 Reunion Video (a work in progress at the moment), have some snacks and enjoy being with camp people for a little time.

While we’re in your home town, we’d love to meet with any prospective families you may know of.  Your help in finding new camp families is vital to the health of camp, so please see if you can help us connect with some new folks.  We’d really appreciate it.  Thanks!

This year we’re going to send you invitations to the reunions via email.  The St. Louis and Chicago reunions are first, and emails for campers and staff in those areas have already gone out.  We’ll send emails a month before the reunion, and then again 2 weeks before so you can be sure to remember when we’ll be in town.  If you feel you should have received an email about a reunion, and you did not, please let us know so we can correct the situation.

Our Reunion Schedule so far is listed below.  We can’t wait to see everyone!
