A nice return to normal
Hello again Timberfamilies! In my last writing to you a couple days ago, I wrote about making a pivot when the unexpected necessitates one. Today, the opposite. We had a nice, normal day. There was a slight haze today, but overall the day was normal in every way: all 4 activity periods and gorgeous weather. Sloppy Joes for lunch. The only change actually happened at 5:00, when we skipped free period to get ready for our second session CASINO NIGHT!
If your family is just joining us for their first summer, Casino Night is just what it sounds like. The entire evening program is made up of games of chance, and campers gamble “Timberbuck” currency in competition with the other cabins with the goal of getting the highest-ranked item they can from the Casino Night silent auction list. The prizes include a hibachi meal prepared by our kitchen manager and Sam, s’mores after campfire, a pontoon cruise with snacks, and 12 other unique treats. The games include all the usual, including blackjack and poker, but also bingo, bozo buckets, and a sports book. It’s VERY camp, and a ton of fun. The best part might be the outfits the kids bring just for the night, and tonight was no different. Make sure to check out the camp photos from tonight to see all the crazy fun.
The fires in Canada are still very much on our minds, and we continue to monitor the air quality, but it’s looking like we may have at least a few days without the haze we had a couple days ago, and hopefully it’s gone for good. We will of course continue to monitor the AQI and pivot if our health center staff advises us to do so. Tomorrow we plan a normal day, with an afternoon break of watching the World Cup Finals, for those who are into that kind of thing, and another fantastic evening program. We’ll let you know how it all went tomorrow night.
For now, thanks for reading and have a great evening!
Best wishes,
Jeff Melrose
