Today was a typical day at camp! After 5 days of varying days, and a wonderful visiting weekend, our 8-weekers got back to a regular schedule, and our new 4-week campers experienced the activities they have been looking forward to for months. The ski boats made the rounds, the wall was scaled, and our new campers started to learn the skills for enjoying future trips adventures. It was a great day, despite the incredible heat.
When it’s hot, we mitigate the heat with frequent water breaks and set up sprinklers for cooling-off stations. The professional irrigation system for the athletic field gained a new use: it became a cooling station, and it was wonderful to see the simple joy of the boys enjoying a blast of ice-cold water on a very hot summer day.
Tonight we had a different kind of scavenger hunt, which involved the counselors spreading out around our central area and athletic field. Campers had to meet them and ask questions ranging from “Are you a lefty?” to “Did you spend a year living in Antarctica?”” Getting 40 counselor facts was the ticket to the canteen treast for the evening, and then we had one last surprise for our new campers.
After we sent the veteran campers back to the cabins, our first year campers and their camp big brothers had a pizza party social. You’ll see the photos shortly, but it was great seeing our older boys answering questions and connecting with these new members of our Timberlane community. The pizza was also a hit.
Tomorrow we expect the weather to cool a bit, but it’ll be great weather for being in the lake for the next few days. We’ll update you on all the big doin’s tomorrow night.
Until then, thanks for reading! Have a good night!
Best wishes,
