Who’s Who at Camp – March 2022

Hi Folks,

We are very excited to tell you about some awesome people who will be with us at camp this summer.  We have staff, both returning and new! We also have exciting list of campers who are joining us this summer!! Check it out!

WELCOME BACK TO THE FOLLOWING CAMPERS JOINING US THIS SUMMER! 

Our invitations to last summer’s staff to return in 2021 have just recently gone out, and we already have some great folks who will be back again. Even though it’s only December, we have a great group of returning staff to tell you about. Welcome back to:   Jared Letwat Jared is back for his 10th summer! He is currently a Freshman at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he is studying Design and Merchandising. This summer, Jared will be a Senior Counselor and head up our world-renowned Potter Program again. Outside of the Pottery Shop, you will be able to find Jared helping out with Comedy Sportz, Arts & Crafts, and Swimming. This year, Jared showcased his talent as a part of an original Drexel Play called Tales from the Vault, where he played two characters, Past Flamel and Glacies. Very Cool!   Zachary Liss Zachary joins us for his 8th summer at camp! Zachary is a Junior at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. He will be a Junior Counselor helping with Basketball, Archery, Waterskiing, and Athletics. Zachary recently finished his basketball season, his team took fourth place, but he is excited to do even better next season. Welcome to the staff Zachary! Owen Monieson Owen is back for summer number 10! Owen is a Freshman at the University of Colorado-Boulder studying PR & Advertising. He will be a Senior Counselor this summer and will once again head up our Athletics program. When not studying hard, Owen has been enjoying all that the Colorado lifestyle has to offer, hiking and skiing a ton. We are looking forward to having this Legacy Legend join us for another summer. Something you may not know about Owen: “I recently picked up playing guitar. I’m not very good, but it gets the people going for sure.” Maybe we’ll see Owen around the campfire this summer playing guitar.  Owen Taylor Owen is currently a Sophomore at Boston University where he is studying Film & TV. This will be summer number 8 for Owen and he will be the new Director of our Volleyball program! When not on the sand volleyball court you may find Owen helping out at Comedy Sportz, Ropes Course, or Guitar. We are pumped for another summer with Owen! SAY HELLO TO THESE AWESOME FIRST-YEAR STAFF MEMBERS: Jose Kamaji Kury Jose will be joining us from Puebla, Mexico. He will be 24 this summer and is in his final semester of school studying Business Management at Benemeria Universidad Autonoma de Puebla. This summer he will be a Cabin Counselor helping out at a ton of different activities including Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, and Archery. Jose is eager to learn new things and we are excited for a great summer with him! Something you may not know about Jose: “My dream is to become a film director and producer, I am learning about stories and writing techniques to create in the future!” Alessa Guzmán Alessa is currently a Junior at the Arkansas University Campus in Querétaro in Mexico. She is studying International Business with a minor in Global Supply Chain Management. She is 20 years old and will be joining us at camp as an Activity Specialist. Alessa is a big fan of traveling and even hopes to study for a Master’s Degree in Germany! Something you may not know about Alessa: “My sneeze is very different from others, many say that I sneeze like a cat! In a few months, you’ll have a chance to hear it yourselves!” Looking forward to that for sure. Connor Tucker Connor joins us from across the pond in the UK. He is 25 years old and will be a Cabin Counselor this summer. Connor has a lot of experience with soccer as he has been organizing youth soccer tournaments for the last couple of years. We will be able to see his skills on the soccer field this summer as well as on the tennis and basketball courts where he will be helping out. Something that you may not know about Connor: “I once ran in a 10km race which was a fun experience as there were hundreds of other runners racing as well.” Nate Adams We are excited to welcome Nate as one of our Camp Nurses. Nate is a Registered Nurse from Pine, Arizona. He has experience working in Emergency Rooms as well as COVID clinics recently, but is excited to meet everyone and work at camp. Nate and his wife Tammy, recently finished 18 months of full-time travel in their truck (named Blanca). They were able to explore most of the Western State and get in some hiking, camping, and paddling. They won’t stop there though, they have plans for next winter to explore Baja! Something you may not know about Nate: “I enjoy visiting Native American sites like Chaco Canyon, Hovenweep, and Mesa Verde.”  Tammy Pokorney Tammy will be one of our Camp Nurses this summer. She joins us from Pine, Arizona. She is a Registered Nurse with a load of experience from her time as a flight nurse in the US Air Force, where she retired after 24 years. Tammy is married to Nate and we can’t wait for this amazing duo to be a part of our staff. Between the two of them, they have more than 50 years of nursing experience. We are in good hands this summer folks! Something you may not know about Tammy: “I have been to more than 60 countries, but nothing compares to the amazement I feel on our farm in Oklahoma.”
