Today began the final 72 hours of the summer, which for us means we pull out all the stops. Every hour needs to be great, which may not mean action-packed and exciting, but rather that every hour has intention and is focused on creating memories for the campers.
Having said that, we started our day with breakfast, chocolate-chip pancakes, and then an extended cabin cleanup. The rest of the morning consisted of what we call “clinics”, which are skill-centered activity sessions the campers can move between over the course of a couple hours. Waterskiing was focused on advanced skiing skills, including barefooting. Our climbing wall hosted a speed climbing competition, and mountain biking focused on running the gamut of trails winding through camp. It was a fun morning, and then we took a pause for mac and cheese followed by a cabin cleanup, which also featured our staff soccer game. This year was US vs. the World, and the US won in a tense shootout. Great stuff.
This afternoon we revisited the #1 evening program of the summer by doing what we call “Casino Day”, which is all the Casino Night games of chance, but with a twist in how the Timberbuck winnings were used. We opened a Casino “gift shop,” not too different from the ticket stores found at many arcades, where the campers could use their winnings to buy popcorn or an ice pop, or get Croc jibbetz, water bottle stickers, and a variety of small toys. The kids had SO much fun cashing in their winnings toward an item they were excited by, and hopefully a few of the prizes make their way home. It was a fantastic afternoon.
Tonight, after a dinner of hot wings, we played the final round of Capture the Flag, and at the very end the campers were excited to see some very large items being delivered for tomorrow’s big end-of-summer carnival party. We’ll tell you all about it tomorrow!
