Today was another fantastic day. We started with Lazy Breakfast, moved into first and second period, has gyros for lunch, and had an afternoon of 3rd and 4th period followed by a free period. We had burgers for a barbeque dinner, and wrapped up the day with our camper hunt (hide-and-seek, with the counselors seeking). It was a sparse camper hunt because so many campers were out on trips. So although the number left to hunt was still plenty, the absence of so many was noticeable.
What makes the list of activities above so significant is that everything we did today, we did for the last time for this summer. I made my last bullseye for a camper’s breakfast. We had the last of each activity period. It was our last barbeque. It was a day of lasts, and that felt weird.
This summer, our counselors all had goals for how they hoped to see their campers progress in the cabin, as members of the cabin community, but also how they would progress and grow in their activities. We will have a few more times to get in a last ski run, or last wall climb, or last time on the trampolines, but the activity period lessons wrapped up today. I hope when your camper gets home, he is able to tell you about things they grew and improved in doing, whether it be archery skills, pickleball technique, or successfuly starting a slalom ski run from in the water.
Our trips staff took the last trips of the summer out today. They are all short trips, but the coolest part is that they are largely populated by campers who decided to meet one more goal this summer and go out on their first trip. Lots of them are friends heading out together for an adventure together before they head home. Again, it’s wonderful to see these goals being met through the campers’ own attention and effort towards reaching a goal they set for themselves.
Tomorrow is our last cruiser day, and seniors are heading to Madeline Island. while in camp plenty of adventures will happen as well. After that, we have 2 days of amazing, exciting, and unique activites before we have to start packing up to head home. We’ll get you all the details, photos, and a recap as the last days of the summer unfold. There’s still plenty of camping left to be done!!
