Today was a “typical day” at camp. The weather was a very average low-70s, and lunch was the always-popular chicken caesar wraps. Good stuff. The ski area was very busy with the usual assortment of campers working on different skill areas, but tomorrow is the Kawaga Ski Tournament, and our participating camper were working hard at clearing our slalom course and preparing to represent camp/. We typically do quite well.
In the afternoon, I was able to do one of my favorite tasks for the program team: buy popcorn. While this task would be mundane for most people, I never go into town to buy a bag of popcorn. I get to buy 20 VERY large bags sold by our local grocery store. Being a smaller town, when I leave with a shopping cart literally full to the top with bags of popcorn, as I pass on the way to my car, it never fails that people comment. “Boy, you must really like popcorn!” or “Are ya hosting a movie night?” Then I explain it’s for a summer camp, and they nod sagely and walk on, curiosity appeased. Today, someone asked if I was buying it all to use as packing material for a move. I’m not sure buttered popcorn would be anyone’s first choice for that purpose, but I appreciated the humor of the idea as I continued to load the remaining bags into my back seat. (The trunk was already full.)
Why so many bags? Well, the ladies of Camp Agawak paid us a visit tonight, and it was an exciting time. Music, volleyball, lots of socializing, freshly baked brownies, and of course, popcorn. The boys cleaned up well and if you ever wonder what a social looks like, it’s fairly different from what school dances looked like when I was growing up. Lots of clusters of school friends reconnected, along with plenty of games, running around, and whispered conversations. Plenty of giggling too. It was a very fun night, and we always appreciate Agawak paying us a visit.
And the popcorn? There was just less than 1 bag left by the end of the night. It’s really good popcorn they sell at Trig’s.
Thanks for reading! Have a great day tomorrow. We’ll let you know how the ski tournament turned out tomorrow night.
Best wishes,
